JERRY CANTRELL Skips NICKELBACK/SALIVA Collaboration, MATT CAMERON Steps In
March 27, 2002The proposed collaboration between former ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell, NICKELBACK frontman Chad Kroeger, and SALIVA singer Josey Scott on a track called "Hero" went ahead this past Thursday and Friday, March 21st and March 22nd, without the contributions of Cantrell, who was unable to join the latter pair at a Vancouver studio for the recording of the Kroeger-penned cut.
Due to appear on the soundtrack to the upcoming Spider-Man movie, "Hero"'s final version features the drumming of former SOUNDGARDEN and current PEARL JAM/WELLWATER CONSPIRACY sticksman Matt Cameron and a guitar lead from the guitarist from the Vancouver-based Kroeger protgs THEORY OF A DEAD MAN, who were recently signed to Roadrunner Records. A video for the song was subsequently shot this past weekend, with OUR LADY PEACE drummer Jeremy Taggart taking the place of Cameron (who returned home to tend to his reportedly very pregnant wife) and NICKELBACK bassist Mike Kroeger filling in on bass.
The Spider-Man soundtrack, which will also include a solo cut from SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor (among other tracks),is tentatively scheduled for an April 23rd release. Meanwhile, the movie itself is due to hit US theaters on May 3rd.
